Fitness Trainer: Boredom Busters

One of the biggest obstacles to staying on track for fitness is losing motivation. People are just starting an exercise program can find themselves quickly tired of the same routine. Keeping exercise appealing and maintaining a good fitness perspective is key to long-term success.

If you have to watch the exact same episode of your favorite television show every day for the rest of your life, you would probably be banging your head against the wall by the end of the week. You would change the channel, pick up a book, or do anything you could to avoid something you once enjoyed.

Yet, many people starting on a fitness program feel compelled to follow the same routine, day after day after day, and consequently fall off the exercise wagon due to sheer boredom.

That is why, most people would want the services of a fitness trainer in order to provide them the different portions of the fitness program in a more livelier style.

Fitness trainers are actually those who are expert in analyzing and creating a fitness program that is right for you. They are the ones who will calculate your appropriateness to a certain program with regards to your “fitness level,” create the program according to your specific needs, and keep you stimulated and inspired by giving you activities that will not bore you.

But then again, as with other entities included in the fitness world, not all fitness trainers are created equal. They may vary from the different trainings that they have, the health education they have acquired, and the skills that they have learned.

Hence, it is important to consider some factors that will determine if a certain fitness trainer is right for you. Here is how:

1. Certification

Like any item or product, the quality is sometimes measured and determined through the certification that goes with it. Hence, before you choose your fitness trainer, it is important to verify if the trainer is duly certified by a highly regarded fitness association.

It is also best to choose a trainer that has a CPR certification or first aid qualifications.

2. Education/Trainings

Be sure to choose a fitness trainer who had acquired an adequate training and education as far as health and physical fitness is concerned.

Even though it is not necessary, trainers who have acquired education connected with health or any other related field will definitely have an edge over the others.

3. Knows how to give the right attention

A good fitness trainer should know how to provide his or her client an undivided attention whenever their session is going on. In this way, the trainer will be able to focus more on the details that needs attention and immediate considerations.

4. Knows how to track development

It is best to choose a fitness trainer that knows how to track his or her client’s progress as far as fitness is concerned.

In this way, the trainer will be able to generate new activities and trainings designated for a particular result of the client.

5. Good Personality

Since you will be dealing most with your fitness trainer, it is best if you will look for somebody with a pleasing personality, somebody whom you can be comfortable. It is best to hire the services of somebody whom you can easily get along with.

Boiled down, the services of a fitness center and the contributions it can give you while working out on those belly fats, are, indeed, one of the best help that you can get from a professional person who knows what he is doing.

Hence, it is best to choose the best person who can give you the best services that you need so that you will never get bored again.

America’s Kids are NOT at Fault for Being Overweight!

It’s a downward spiral. Childhood obesity is fast becoming a nationwide epidemic, and the physical and psychological effects of being overweight can last a lifetime. While the issue of weight problems in children has become a “hot-button” topic throughout the news media, far too many families don’t have adequate information or resources when it comes to teaching their kids healthy eating and fitness habits.

It’s certainly not easy being a kid in today’s complex culture where children have it tougher than their parents did, health-wise. Not only do they have to negotiate any number of social landmines at school, but overweight and obese children also have challenges, social and otherwise, far beyond those for typical adolescents. Today’s overweight kids, of which there are many, more frequently have to deal with the discrimination of their peers and scrutiny from adults.

What we all must understand is that placing – and displacing – blame doesn’t lessen a child’s suffering, nor does it make a child any healthier. And, we must not simply resign ourselves to believing that genetics are accountable for a child’s weight problem and, therefore, do nothing. Rather, we must teach America’s kids to navigate through society’s overabundance of and easy access to junk foods and fast foods, and to make sound choices regarding their nutrition and fitness. Parents lobbying for more physical education courses at school is a good start, but is simply not enough.

As with adults, there is no quick, easy weight loss fix for children. In order to solve a child’s weight problem, parents need to help the child help him or her self, by modifying and managing dietary intake, physical activity and lifestyle behaviors. They must also seek out resources that can help their child start making small lifestyle changes RIGHT NOW that, combined, will lead to big results. Solutions do not need to be the result of clinical trials or doctorate level dissertations. There are many new products on the marketplace today that have come about at the grassroots level by Americans who are not only concerned about the state of kids’ health throughout America, but have decided to take action:

As the author of “It’s Not Your Fault That You’re Overweight – A Story of Enlightenment, Empowerment and Accomplishment for Overweight and Obese Kids” (www.notfault.com), I happen to be among those offering a new and unique resource, not only for those kids struggling with weight issues, but also those within a healthy weight range to stay motivated to continue making wise lifestyle choices and to better understand and empathize with peers currently struggling with a weight problem. eDiets.com’s personalized online Trim Kids™ Plan is yet another fantastic solution to help parents of overweight teach their children healthy eating and exercise habits that can last them a lifetime. With a personalized meal plan, fitness guidance and expert support, you can’t go wrong. Fitwize 4 Kids (www.fitwize4kids.com), a national chain of children’s gymnasiums that promote adolescent physical fitness, health and wellness, is another new resource that I applaud. The company’s unique approach combines fitness and fun through methods specifically designed for kids’ ages 6.5 to 15. Fitwize 4 Kids programs increase self-esteem and teach children how to implement proper nutrition and exercise habits in their ever day lives. Grandma’s Healthy Kids Club (www.grandmashealthykidsclub.com) is another wonderful resource rife with tools to help kids get healthy. From “Yum Yum Dishes” – fun, hand painted dishes that help teach kids portion control, to adolescent exercise videos, to pedometers and other equipment for kids, to an array of child health books, Grandma – 61 year old Bev Grey from Indianapolis, Indiana.- is most certainly doing her part, and are efforts that I wholeheartedly support. Another great front-line solution is “Thumbs Up for Healthy Living” – an educational program that promotes nutrition education, physical activity, and home-learning based activities designed to promote student wellness. Guided by the playful character known as Skipper the Thumbs Up guy, children learn about proper nutrition, good eating habits and a basic fitness program in a language they can understand. The program features the patent pending EZ-Rope™ Classic (www.ezrope.net) – the jump rope without the middle™ that allows children to get the fitness benefit of jumping rope but without the difficulty, as well as a Thumbs Up For Healthy Living Interactive Workbook, Total Conditioning Cardio with EZ-Rope DVD, and Thumbs Up Thermal Lunch Bags among other resources. Leave it to a former NAVY SEAL Instructor and ACE Certified Personal Trainer to take health matters into his own hands; Phil Black’s FitDeck® Jr. (www.fitdeck.com) is an ever-changing 50-card deck of exercises for children ages 5 – 16 years old. The fun, kid-friendly exercises call for basic body movements and require no equipment whatsoever.

These are just a few of the many examples of sound and relatively inexpensive products that can help families get on track in short order. Parents and children, themselves, need to act now, as America’s kids are at risk for the many complications of overweight and obesity. This is no small problem, as obesity is known to contribute to devastating diseases and emotional depression. For the health of our nation and all of our futures, we must provide our children with the basics: the knowledge of how to live a healthy lifestyle and both the desire – and the tools – to do just that.

For Health Sakes – How Well Do You Know Yourself?

I’ll bet you know more about your car or T.V. celebrity or reality show more than you do about your body. That’s right, the very thing that takes you to earn money, enjoy your entertainment and anything else you desire. So why do we treat it so poorly? Because we have been trained to be dependent on the Health system and we take it for granted until it breaks down.

I’m not here to insult anyone I just want to bring awareness to the subject of health. I see people run to the doctors everyday if they stub there toe or have a pain here and there. I want to discuss the difference between physical and physiological awareness of your body by using my experience as a example.

From my early years to my mid forties I was always health conscious as far as exercises and physical fitness. I was on the track team in high school and became aware of the differences between muscle soreness and tears. After years of working out I knew just how far I could push my body before a soreness turned into a muscle tear or worse. Exercise was invigorating and a stress release almost to the point of being addictive. I took good care of my body physically and eating I was OK. I figured I knew my body pretty well by this time and I could analyze any problem going forward. I was wrong, in my forties something changed.

I slowly started to wake up every morning a little weaker, less energy. Oh the doctor and friends said it was a middle age slow down so I gave it time to adjust, but it didn’t. As time passed it got worse and more sleep didn’t help matters. Exercise became harder and it started having the reverse effect. Instead of invigorating exercise was exhausting and almost painful. Nausea and headaches became more prevalent as the day wore on. It was the first time I was ever afraid because I always knew my body and was able to solve most problems. I tried everything I knew and nothing worked, it was like a battery that wouldn’t recharge.

Fear created stress and it just got worse. I quit work and gave the doctors two years to find the problem. Among other things I lost my voice and the only thing they came up with was Botox injections into my vocal cords for life. If you would have seen the 12 inch needle the wanted to put in my throat every 6 weeks you would have passed out and this didn’t fix the original problem of fatigue. Little to lose I took the next 5 years learning how the insides of the body works and here I am today almost fully recovered and talking without Botox.

I tell you this because I really thought I knew myself, but it was only one aspect, the physical side. What happens inside your body is a whole different game. So that’s why I ask the question “How well do you know yourself” and that’s the reason I started the Health Hub. The health system like other systems in our society make things complicated for one reason, dependence. You feel they are the only ones that can intrepid health, not true. You can be Independently Healthy just take some time to know your body..

Remember we only have One Life – One Body

The Importance of Physical Fitness

One of the simplest and most effective ways to bring down blood glucose levels, cut the risk of cardiovascular disease, and improve overall health and well-being is physical fitness and exercise. Yet, in our increasingly sedentary world, where almost every essential task can be performed online, from the driver’s seat, or with a phone call, exercising and being physically fit can be tough case to sell.

In reality, everyone should exercise, yet survey shows that only 30% of the United States adult population gets the recommended thirty minutes of daily physical activity, and 25% are not active at all.

Inactivity is thought to be one of the key reasons for the surge of type 2 diabetes in America, because inactivity and obesity promote insulin resistance and other factors that trigger other kinds of diseases.

The good news is that it is never too late to get moving, and exercise is one of the easiest ways to start controlling the onset of any kinds of diseases. For people who are already candidates for some serious diseases like diabetes and heart failure, exercise and physical fitness can improve the condition of some parts of the body like insulin sensitivity, lower the risk of heart disease, and promote weight loss.

In 2003, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism had published an issue regarding the result of their study and found out that lack of exercise and physical fitness were the key factors behind obesity and other serious diseases like diabetes.

Hence, it is extremely important for a person to stay healthy and be physically fit in order to avoid such illnesses.

Getting Started

The first order of business with any exercise plan, especially if you are a “dyed-in-the-wool” couch potato, is to consult with your health care provider.

If you have cardiac factors, your doctor may want to perform a stress test to establish a safe level of exercise for you.

Certain complications of some diseases will also dictate what type of exercise program you can take on. Activities like weightlifting, jogging, or high-impact aerobics can possibly pose a risk for people with diabetic retinopathy due to the risk for further blood vessel damage and possible “retinal detachment.”

Health experts also contend that patients with sever peripheral neuropathy or PN should avoid foot-intensive weight-bearing exercises such as long-distance walking, jogging, or step aerobics and opt instead for low-impact activities like swimming, biking, and rowing.

If you have conditions that make exercise and physical fitness a challenge, your provider may refer you to an exercise physiologist who can design a fitness program for your specific needs.

If you are already active in sports or work out regularly, it will still benefit you to discuss your regular routine with your doctor.

The bottom line is that physical fitness and exercise should not have to be a rigid activity and should not come off strong. Your exercise routine can be as simple as a brisk nightly neighborhood walk, walking the dog, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The important thing is that you keep on moving. Every little bit really helps a lot.

In the end, you will realize that the many things that good food can bring you are equally the same as what physical fitness can do for you.

Can a Portable Exercise Bike Help You Work Your Way to Fitness?

A portable exercise bike serves the same purpose as its bigger counterpart, be it recumbent or upright. It was designed to tone the muscles of the legs, thighs and buttocks. However, sacrificing the size for portability might also mean that the device sacrifices some of its effectiveness.

Advantages of mini exercise bikes

Yes, they do have advantages. They might be small but they can provide the user his basic needs in terms of cardiovascular exercise and muscle toning. One advantage that these mini-equipment have is that they cost less than the usual biggies. They can cost from as low as $20 to $500. There are high-end portable models that sell for around $899 and even higher, but maybe it would be advisable to get the traditional exercise bike for this price.

Another advantage is the machines’ portability. They do not take as much space as an upright or recumbent exercise bike and are considerably lighter so you can move them around and take them with you in your car if you wish to use it in your office or other places other than your home. They can be stored easily since they are small and you won’t need a big space to keep them safe.

The cons of going small

Ever heard of the saying that smaller price means smaller service? It could be true for this portable equipment. They can perform the basic physical fitness functions, but they do not have the stability or safety that bigger machines offer. For one, a mini exercise bike does not offer the back support that a recumbent does. It also does not provide the ease of seating that a bigger model can offer. The resistance might also not be as strong as the big ones and most models do not have the special features that bigger machines have.

Portable indoor bikes, depending on the model, can also have stability problems. There are some that are not sturdy enough so they can wobble and might create some balance problems that users will not likely experience if they are using the bigger models, particularly the mid-price and higher-end ones. The small size also does not usually allow for reach and seating adjustments, so basically, what you see is what you get.

Despite having these advantages, mini exercise bikes do serve their purpose. They can help tone the muscles of the thighs, legs and buttocks. However, these models are not recommended for serious exercisers who are used to high level and high intensity workouts.

A portable exercise bike might not be as superb as its bigger counterparts, but if you prefer a smaller one that you can move around and take with you wherever you go, then by all means, do purchase one. Just choose the sturdy models that can hold your weight and provide you with comfort and stability.

Physical Fitness – 7 Tips For Getting Lean Without Losing Your Muscle

With physical fitness being on the minds of people everywhere it is not unusual to see a gym busy at all hours of the day and night. There are the right ways to work out and the not so effective ways to work out. But for most people getting lean without losing their muscle tone is the primary goal.

#1 Do weight training instead of cardio to gain a lean body. Weight training increases your metabolism for approximately 24 to 36 hours following your workout. when the body breaks down and rebuilds the muscles it takes a metabolic exchange to accomplish the task. Whereas, aerobic exercise only burns the calories while you are doing the exercise.

#2 Do a minimal amount of cardio exercise, usually first thing in the morning, to add an increase of activity to your daily routine. After all, fat begins to burn when there is even a slight deficit of calories. So in order to accomplish this you must either reduce your calorie intake and/or increase you physical activity.

#3 It is important to establish a baseline diet be sure not to start too low since you will have nowhere to go once your body gets used to it and you may sacrifice muscle as well. Some starchy carbs to consider will come mostly from oatmeal, brown rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and my fibrous carbs come from vegetables like green beans and broccoli, protein sources will come from egg whites, chicken, turkey, lean red meats, salmon and tuna, and fats will come from extra virgin olive oil, flaxseed oil, some CLA, and the fats in lean sources of meat.

#4 Eat several small meals per day unlike the 3 basic meals that you are used to eating. Eat your starchy carbs before 7 pm unless you are doing a workout after that time.

#5 Establish a weight training routine to include 6 work outs per week with 30 minutes of cardio first thing in the morning or right after your workout.

#6 Increase your amount of carbs on Sunday to an extra 125 grams of carbs so your body does not get used to one specific amount of calorie intake.

#7 The maximum amount of fat that anyone should lose in a weeks time is 1 to 2 pounds. Losing weight too fast, too soon only will lead to lose of muscle. If you are not losing fat after a couple of weeks then you need to increase the amount of 30 cardio work outs and decrease your calorie intake till you begin to lose the fat. A set of calipers is helpful to keep track of your progress.

When you follow these simple guidelines you will be closer to a leaner, healthier body. And you will have a different attitude about yourself over all. And now I invite you to find out more at http://www.AbsOrAbsNot.com to get started right away to the new thinner and healthier you. It is time that you got the most out of your life.
