<p>Regardless of the type of business you are in &#8211; you need clients/patients. The biggest challenge of opening a new practice can be getting those new patients. In other words, you may be the best at what you do, but no one will find out if they don&#8217;t know you are there.</p>

<p>Over the years, I&#8217;ve heard many suggestions for marketing a business as well as a health care practice. Here are a few of them:</p>
<p>Speak to local community organization Advertise in the yellow pagesGet on a radio showSend out notices to other practices, providers.Notify large employers that you are open.If you have current patients, and it&#8217;s not against whatever contract you may have signed, let your patients know where you will be going.Take out newspaper adsJoin your chamber of commerceWord of mouthBecause I started my practice on a shoestring, my marketing budget was not huge. So with the exception of a few marketing techniques, many of these are low cost. Here&#8217;s what I did.</p>
<p>I sent out letter to all medical providers to let them know we were opening. I also sent personal letters to the hospital discharge planners and to the emergency room.  Notices were mailed to all the pharmacies, DME companies, oxygen suppliers and assisted living facilities.I attended a community meeting regarding the closure a large clinic in town. This in turn brought my practice to the attention of the local DSHS office, senior groups, and those discharge planners.Since I was working in a local office, I started letting patients know I was leaving. I did not have a non-compete, therefore I was free to open my office in any town. Those that were interested were told where I was going and to watch the paper for further details. Newspaper Advertising. Our timing was good, as our local daily newspaper was putting out a little booklet entitled &#8220;Health on the Harbor&#8221;, which we could be listed in. We also took out some ads to announce our opening.Our timing was good for the phone book as well. One called &#8220;The Yellow Book&#8221; as superb to work with. We had excellent ad placement and that book came out within a month of us opening. For us, it was an excellent investment. The regular &#8220;yellow pages&#8221; came out just recently, and it&#8217;s been okay, but nothing like the first one.Insurance companies. Believe it or not, we get lots of people because of their insurance company, and because we are open to new patients (so they come by default). Our slogan is &#8220;We Listen&#8230;We Care&#8221;. More people have told me they came because of that phrase in our ads, on our business cards, and on our webpage.Word of Mouth. We all know how powerful social validation is &#8211; and this is exactly what word of mouth is. It truly is the single most powerful marketing tool you have. My patients often take extra business cards with them to hand them out. This is where I put most of my energy.The result of all this was good. While many new practices have zero to one patient on their first open day, we opened with eight, and we&#8217;ve continued to grow since then. And as we all know, marketing never stops.</p>

<p>Being close to someone who has recently been somewhat forcibly retired, I have been astounded by the predominance of advice on the internet for retirement planning, investments, real estate and every other form of advice where someone can make some money out of it.</p>

<p>While what is remarkably lacking is the thought that maybe people who are retiring might just want to worry about pursuing another 30 or more years of an active and healthy lifestyle.</p>
<p>Obviously retirement planning should have a strong focus on the financial aspects but if you are not in good health both physically and more importantly mentally, retirement tends to start looking a lot less attractive.</p>

<p>Both muscle tone and mental acuity decline sharply with inactivity and it is of paramount importance that anyone approaching retirement should realize this and take steps to prevent it.</p>
<p>PHYSICAL HEALTH</p>
<p>With the growing economic importance of the retiring baby boomer age group, there is now a fast growing development of anti-aging products.</p>
<p>The problem is a great number of the products that are hyped up are little more than hot air, usually they have some anecdotal evidence of efficacy which is enough to allow the marketers to sneak by the regulatory authorities but you are best off to keep your money in your pocket until you have personally seen the benefits of the product or until there is real published proof that it works.</p>
<p>Good food, plenty of exercise and continual mental stimulation will do much more for you than pill taking.</p>
<p>Having said that, there are definitely some products worth looking at, I have personally seen some fairly amazing recoveries from serious immune system problems with a somewhat controversial range of products made by a network marketing company ( no I do not sell it mainly because, like most of these outfits many of their often ill informed sales people will tell you it is a miracle cure for any disease state you can think of and it is definitely not that ).</p>
<p>We have had some great results with Hgh stimulating products but there are a considerable number of companies selling very inferior versions of it, so if you are interested in these products make sure the company selling it has real published data on controlled clinical trials. There are other health related products worth looking at but rather than me presenting them here, it will be good for your mental health to look them up yourself.</p>
<p>MENTAL HEALTH</p>
<p>Probably even more important than the physical are the retirement choices you make that will keep your mental functions sharp. It is inevitable that there will be some loss of mental sharpness and minor memory lapses as you get further into retirement but it is entirely possible to maintain most of your mental abilities at an age equivalent which is much younger than your chronological age.</p>
<p>Here are a few suggestions:</p>
<p>Make the effort to join a club, discussion group or reading group.</p>
<p>Take up Toastmasters, chess, bridge, poker or something similar and make an effort to get really good at it by reading up as much as you can about the subject.</p>
<p>Get involved in a charity but keep away from the committees who are often more interested in feeding their egos than in actually doing something worthwhile.</p>
<p>Start up an internet based business, just having to learn the computer skills necessary for this will keep the mental fires burning for years but it is doable and can be quite profitable as well.</p>
<p>If you can afford it get involved in an all encompassing activity such as my personal passion which is thoroughbred horse breeding and racing. There is an endless challenge in getting that one right, but be careful of some of the sports so called expert advisers. ( see my articles on this one ).</p>

<p>I recently sat on a discussion panel in a Graduate-Level Counseling/Psychology class at the local university. The night&#8217;s topic was in regard to homosexuality. My two co-panelists included a conservative Baptist preacher and a Gay male. When I introduced myself to the class, I made it clear that, although I consider homosexuality a sin, according to Scripture, it is only one of many sins which include heterosexual sex outside of marriage, lying, stealing, pride, etc. As with all other sins, I added, there are consequences &#8211; not punishment &#8211; but negative responses for our own poor choices. I stated that God created sex but He did so within bounds.</p>
<p>During that discussion, &#8220;Pat&#8221; admitted that his main concern was not whether or not he was sinning, or whether or not his union with his current lover was accepted by God or the Church. No, his main concern, he said, was financial. Let&#8217;s face it, when two people, gay or straight, share their lives together, and one of them dies, the survivor generally has a very tough time maintaining the lifestyle they had created as a pair. Part of me wants to say, &#8220;Gee, you&#8217;re right! That&#8217;s not fair!&#8221; Deep in my spirit, I realized, &#8220;There are consequences for every sin, Pat.&#8221;</p>
<p>As the Gay agenda grows increasingly hostile toward traditional values, Christians MUST understand why that agenda should not be validated by the public policies of our nation. The liberal media would have us believe that homosexuality is everywhere and they call us &#8220;homophobic&#8221; if we won&#8217;t accept Gays as a legitimate minority in our country (how an individual&#8217;s unnatural sex acts are supposed to get them recognized as a minority along with Blacks and Hispanics is beyond me).</p>
<p>GAYS IN OUR MIDST</p>
<p>For years, the Gay-rights movement has sought safety in numbers, its leaders claiming that homosexuals make up 10% of the U.S. population. They cited the Kinsey Report, interviews with thousands of men and women for studies on human sexuality in the 1940s and 50s (Researchers into Alfred Kinsey&#8217;s methods, which supposedly catalogued normal sexuality, noted that the ranks of his test subjects were filled with many sexual deviants, prostitutes and child molesters. Criminals provided as high as 1/3 of his subjects but Kinsey entered them into his database as &#8220;normal&#8221; individuals. His manipulation even extended to his choice of staff, young men and women, who were required, prior to coming on board, to provide detailed sexual histories. Another requirement was that they be filmed in explicit sexual movies, supposedly for research, shot in Kinsey&#8217;s attic. Kinsey&#8217;s research included observation of child sexuality, the manual and oral stimulation of children, and the timing of child orgasms with stopwatches. Part of his collection of sex films included films of children in sex acts and adult-with-child sex. The Kinsey Report claims at least &#8216;317´ pre-adolescents&#8217; were sexually experimented upon by &#8216;older adults,&#8217; and confirmation of at least 2,035 child experimental subjects were later admitted in 1980 by [assistants] Gebhard and Pomeroy as reported in Ethical Issues in Sex Therapy”).</p>
<p>Why was this man not arrested? At any rate, Gay activists took hold of the 10% estimate to strengthen their political message–that millions of citizens are excluded from the mainstream by anti-Gay discrimination. Policymakers and the liberal press adopted the estimate–despite protests from skeptical conservatives–citing the 10%  figure time and again.</p>
<p>New York Times 4/16/93: &#8220;Gay leaders have contended that the number of Gay and lesbian Americans was around 10 %, a figure that many of them suspected to be inflated. But they repeated the number often, they said, as a way of encouraging the nation’s large population of closeted homosexuals to be open about their sexual identity.&#8221;</p>
<p>Newsweek, 2/15/93: &#8220;Some Gay activists now concede that they exploited the Kinsey estimate for its tactical value, not its accuracy. ‘We used that figure when most gay people were entirely hidden to try to create an impression of our numerousness,’ says Tom Stoddard, former head of the Lambda Legal Defense Fund.&#8221;</p>
<p>Truth is, overall, certainly less than 3% of Americans, probably around 2-3% Male, 2% Female, are homosexual or bisexual, according to the best studies available. Admissions from the New York Times on 4/16/93 include: A) First, a belated report on Presidential exit poll results the Times had previously &#8220;buried,&#8221; showing only 3% Male and 2% Female homosexuals: &#8220;In fact, one survey analyzing the Presidential vote found that 3 percent of men and 2% of women said they were gay, lesbian, or bisexual. B) The Times also quoted a marketer to the homosexual community: &#8220;Sean Strub, who runs a marketing firm in Manhattan that keeps mailing lists of homosexuals for sale to advertisers and politicians, estimated the size of the country’s Gay population at 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent.&#8221;</p>
<p>Following are some statistics &#8211; some taken from Gay publications &#8211; that reveal something quite different than what the American media and entertainment industries are preaching. I believe this information will dispel the myths that we&#8217;re being programmed to believe about the Gay lifestyle. Jesus said when we know the truth, that truth will set us free. Is this the truth about this subject? You decide:</p>
<p>SAME SEX UNIONS WILL DESTROY TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE</p>
<p>FACT: Dutch study found average Gay union lasts 1-1/2 years, and Gay participants average 8 additional partners outside these relationships (each year). <p>FACT: July 2000, Vermont legalizes same-sex civil unions. 3 yrs later, U of Vermont conducted poll of state&#8217;s Gay men. When asked whether sex outside marriage was immoral, only 34% of these, who claimed to be in committed relationships, found anything wrong with extramarital sex. <p>FACT: The Advocate, leading periodical within Gay community, released results of survey taken Aug 1994: 57% of Gay men have had sex with more than 30 partners. <p>FACT: Study published in Washington Blade (a Gay newspaper): “The median number of lifetime male sexual partners was significantly greater for women who have sex with women than controls.” Study suggested lesbians or bisexual women average 12 male sexual partners during respective lifetimes, while average heterosexual woman will have “only” six male sexual partners. Research severely impairs claim that people cannot help but be Gay. In fact, lesbians are more heterosexual than heterosexuals. <p>FACT: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported number of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses rose 11 percent among Gay and bisexual men between 2000 and 2003. <p>- Exercise. This is often really difficult for those with large amounts of weight to begin. The easiest way to begin an exercise program is with small steps. If you can only walk five minutes every other day, then just walk five minutes every other day. You will begin to build your ability and tolerance to exercise as you stay consistent with your efforts. Find ways to insert exercise into your daily routine that you might not have previously considered (i.e. take the stairs instead of elevator, park far from the doors of the store you are going into, find exercises you can do at your desk that are discrete, take 10 minutes of your lunch break to walk around the block)</p>
<p>- Support. Seek out methods of support for yourself. Losing weight is a difficult task, and so many cannot do it alone. There really is an abundance of support available, so do not be afraid to solicit help. <p>Generation Ageless: How Baby Boomers Are Changing the Way We Live Today&#8230;And They&#8217;re Just Getting Started, by J. Walker Smith and Ann Clurman, is a book you must read. Why? Because people will be talking about it! And those in the know know to read this book!</p>

<p>Baby Boomers&#8211;you may have heard the phrase, this catchword many times; but did you know there are 78 million of them? After reading this book, I believe there are even more-for surely there are those, like me, who were born on the &#8220;cusp&#8211;9 months before 1946!&#8221; and see themselves more like boomers than any other group!</p>
<p>Yankelovich, Inc. began studying consumer values and lifestyles in 1958.  As I started reading Generation Ageless, I did not realize how the activities by a company, about which I knew nothing, could be writing about&#8211;me! It was at first exhilarating&#8211;then it got downright eerie! Yankelovich chose to begin studying Americans through the gathering and analysis of data by generations.  Certainly, they could not have projected at that time that the generation born during the years 1946 to 1964 would become the largest group of any during the last century! Due to the number of individuals, it is also perhaps one of the most influential groups of people in the past and for the foreseeable future.</p>
<p>Generation Ageless is extensive and covers many issues. In some ways, it is like reading a biography of 78 million people, in one book! In another way, it is pure demographics about Baby Boomers. At the same time, every marketing agent should be studying this as a textbook!  Put all together, it is one of the most interesting and informative books I have ever read! It is an interesting read with both narrative and charts; however, with excellent writing, the authors have made what could be very dry into something that comes across in a personal fashion and includes information for anybody of any age.</p>
<p>Before reading this book, some of us may have begun thinking about planning for retirement or considering what we might want to do &#8220;with the rest of our lives.&#8221; Even if we didn&#8217;t feel like our lives were over, we might have felt that society was seeing us that way.  Well, after reading Generation Ageless, we will find that we are all thinking the same thing&#8211;we are too young to retire&#8230;we want to continue doing the things we are now doing and we want to continue them for as long as we want to! So, we now have the key words to explain that! We are not going to ever get old; we are merely middle age-less! &#8220;How cool is that?&#8221; as one commercial declares.</p>
<p>Baby Boomers want to matter; they want to have a presence and an influence. &#8220;Or to put it in the way that best reflects the edge they give to it, it&#8217;s a matter of immortality and morality.&#8221; (p. xiv).</p>
<p>The book uses the terminology that has been coined in the past: the Matures, Baby Boomers, Xers, and Echo Boomers. I found it especially heartening that the Baby Boomers group has expressed many of my own thoughts, as I&#8217;ve grown older. We look back with some regret to that accomplished by the Matures. We worry about the Xers and Echo Boomers. But no matter what, Baby Boomers are going to stay in the game. And because there are so many, what Baby Boomers will continue to do for themselves will directly benefit others.</p>
<p>Baby Boomers, in turn, have been divided into the Straight Arrows, Due Diligents,  Maximizers, Sideliners, Diss/Contenteds, and Re-Activists, with the driving force being the Maximizers.  Readers may see themselves as having started out as one type of individual but changing, due to personal experiences, later in life. As the book says, &#8220;maximizers are the most enthusiastic Boomer segment. They want more of everything and they want more out of everything.&#8221; (p. 188) While the book indicated that maximizers had something in common with every other segment, I thought perhaps another way of saying this was that we all had some part of us that were maximizers&#8230;at one time or another in our lives!</p>
<p>This book is fun to read! It is encouraging; it is disheartening&#8230;but it is about us! If we have an enemy, then the enemy is us. But if we also believe that our future will be bright, we also know that the Baby Boomers will be there, shining and basking in the light provided by that generation!</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll be placing this book on a nearby bookshelf. It is a great resource of information. It gives you much to ponder. And it&#8217;s fun to read and talk about!  I highly recommend Generation Ageless.</p>

<p>Health and environment are linked. In fact, most people prefer using the phrase environmental health to have the union of the two. The union intends to show how influences of human health could come from changes in the environment.</p>
<p><span id="more-769"></span></p>
<p>But, within environmental health, there are other issues, like poverty, population, organic farming, environmental politics, environmental health accounting, environmental health protection and environmental stress (from humans and climatic changes). In other words, it would simply mean external factors that potentially affect health.</p>
<p>The environmental health continues to be under serious threat from; ever increasing population that encroach it, lack of concern from both communities and their leaders, multinational firms&#8217; scaling up of pesticide and chemical use in agriculture, and degradation of the environment -without moral conscience.</p>
<p>Use of chemicals is said to be highly destructive not only to weeds and pests but also to humans. Apart from losing the natural taste of food, eating food crops sprayed with chemicals, even after several hours of cooking, could soon have it settle in vital organs of the body -as lungs and liver. And thereafter, lifespan of humans and animals could be lowered.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, suppliers of such destructive drugs are big corporate firms -that are capable of bribing off influential African leaders, employing huge numbers of people and investing heavily in advertisements. As such, it would be so easy to shut people&#8217;s mouths -majority of who are beneficiaries, not to complain or advocate otherwise.</p>
<p>Yet, just looking at organic farming, which uses natural solutions to agricultural problems, it is something that is environmentally friendly -meaning that whatever constituent of the environment is not harmed. Rather, people practicing it co-exist with an understanding of the knowledge of sustainability in resource utilization.</p>
<p>Communities, in this case, are mindful of paying back to the environment from which they find food -with no pollutants, and ensuring that natural resources regenerate. There is, therefore, mutual benefit, unlike in scenarios -where use of pesticides, bush-burning and huge de-forestation for arable land is the mentality. Organic products are natural and in line with the similarly natural needs of the body.</p>
<p>And products are what consumers could be willing to pay more for in order to safeguard life. The practice of farming is itself gentle to the earth -where both compliment each other in terms of soil conservation, conservation of vegetative cover and ensuring sustainability.</p>
<p>Pressure on land has forced many to migrate into game and forest reserves, and thus, catapulting into aggravated de-forestation, and extinction of rare species of both animals and plants. In south west Busoga forest reserve, in Mayuge District, it is now history that there used to be buffalos and hippopotamuses in the area.</p>
<p>It is a place with most violent panga-yielding encroachers ever known in Uganda. They can go as far as attacking tree-planters, cutting down artificial plantation, and even uprooting of newly planted trees.</p>
<p>Such grave environment degradation is what in turn adds to the already existing threat of global warming, adversely affecting ecological balances, leading to natural punishments (natural disasters), and creating conditions for disease causing germs as well as immunological disturbances.</p>
<p>Encroachment is a key critical issue, but governments in Africa are passive about dealing with the problem. Instead, they focus more on political goals. Politics is usually mixed with serious environmental health concerns. In Uganda, the problem, mainly, is with the forest resource.</p>
<p>For wild life, it is well able to quell off encroachers -according to reports by forest officials in Uganda. There is a kind of discrimination in regard to forest land protection, as would be compared to resources like oil and wild life.</p>
<p>With many of them being immigrants from other regions of the Uganda, the reason they (encroachers) give is lack of land for food production, where denial of forest or animal park land would mean starvation to death. In fighting to live, they are willing to be shot down. But independent observers say encroachers are runaway criminals, who ended up in forests. And those in the forest think justice can hardly be processed to the very end, which gives them a feeling of personal safety.</p>
<p>The passivity of local leaders has not generated action against encroachers -since they are voters capable of helping regimes in Africa stay in power. Governments, therefore, find it a delicate issue to handle. Instead, they choose to keep a blind eye as the environment is massively degraded.</p>
<p>While family planning would be an excellent strategy to combat growing population, the conservative lives of most Africans do not give room to the practice. Education too is out of reach for the majority of the populations around game and forest reserves -realizing that such areas tend to be remote.</p>
<p>The remoteness implies total absence of schools as much as the value of education. Yet, In line with education, going to school is said to discourage high birth rate and living without planning for the future. Some areas like Mayuge District have mainly junior level schools and parents value less the idea of sending children to school.</p>
<p>Parents think educating children is a waste of money, and that in the first place, it is hard to get. While at the same time their forest life is unpredictable -since they believe government would at one time expel them. So, surviving day by day is all they look at. Nevertheless, older men would always be on the look out for breast-pointing young girls to devour sexually. As a Consequence, many drop out before joining secondary schools.</p>
<p>There public health concerns in the face of high population growth -with pressure on utilities and irresponsible behavior in handling of community resources. People in such areas, as game and forest reserves -hardly care about hygiene and sanitation. Instead, the reserves act toilets or latrines.</p>
<p>And because they lack clean water, they frequently &#8220;host&#8221; water-borne diseases. Worse still, inaccessibility to reproductive health services makes them prey to HIVAIDS and other STIs/STDs. Where would you find condoms whilst in such areas?</p>
<p>The implications here are; improper disposal of waste materials, early sexual intercourse and rural prostitution around town centers. Further, in such areas, sexual intercourse is like taking a cup of tea -this time round, in Western Europe context, where anytime is believed to be tea time.</p>
<p>Besides, lack of proper nutrition, lack of well trained personnel, and engineered lack of drugs put local residences more at the risk of dying from the mainly water-borne, sexually transmitted infections and other simple infections -that would otherwise be treated.</p>
<p>Since health services are inaccessible, local residents resort to traditional medicine. Rarely would you walk in rural areas without meeting a kind of &#8220;Dr&#8221; Rashid Lukwago clinic that fill gaps where modern medicine has failed to reach. However, with integrated health service delivery system, traditional medicine and modern are one, though standards need to be set for the former.</p>
<p>People, there, are at subsistence level. They have very little or nothing to sale such that money is generated to buy medical drugs. Herbal medicine, therefore, becomes the most appropriate to them.</p>
<p>Interestingly, people claim herbs have been more effective at curing serious illnesses than modern medicine. No wonder, recent health strategy called for a twin approach to treatment of diseases.</p>
<p>Much as the lucky urban and semi-urban areas would be found with decent health care facilities, patients find no drugs in them. What is thought to be free treatment at government health centers is never so. At best they would offer blood testing and prescription. The patient, then, plays the last role of going to the pharmaceutical shop find drugs.</p>
<p>Perhaps, it is cost-sharing at work that government introduced in earlier stages of its rule. But, remember, people are poor. If unable to buy medicinal drugs, and when traditional herbs fail, they could succumb to death.</p>
<p>The health sector happens to be one of the most infested government departments with acts of corruption. As a remedy, liberalization of the economy in general and health sector particularly in this case, sounded as though was the answer.</p>
<p>However, doing so, well, helped to improve on services offered. On the other hand, only the rich could afford. The poor, as usual, were left out -and only had to pray that they do not fall sick and get close to their creator.</p>
<p>Not very long ago, health ministers were implicated for misuse of global funds meant for prevention and treatment of malaria and HIV/AIDS. As the lords where busy feasting and driving posh cars around, AIDS patients were dying. Sincerely, where are the hearts in the Uganda&#8217;s political players?</p>
<p>Unfortunately, belief in witchcraft is another problem in such areas. Any strange incident could call for a witch-doctor&#8217;s consultation or referral to cultural norms. It was not surprising; therefore, when findings by butabika hospital showed that majority of people in Uganda preferred traditional healers or faith-based prayers to health centers -as curative.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the same cultural ideas could be so entrenched that changing attitudes might pose a challenge. Development pace could be slow or even static -since people find it &#8220;impossible&#8221; to think beyond simple cultural excuses. Actually, witchcraft, being at the center of cultural practices, plays roles of what science would be purposed for.</p>
<p>Without encouraging people to take their children to school such that young people post-pone marriage, it would always be hard to control infections and diseases as much as to change their attitudes towards the mainly useless cultural beliefs.</p>
<p>Useless cultures could have adverse connections to almost everything in life -be it with health service promotion, proper agricultural practices and viable leadership or managerial options. All could suffer under wrong mentalities.</p>
<p>More so, as the saying goes, &#8220;educate a woman, educate the nation.&#8221; The saying, just as from; different research findings on gender, experiences and the statistical occurrence of child abuse and neglect cases, educated men would tend to act more irresponsibly on matters of child development than educated women.</p>
<p>There could be a difference between good orderliness of a family of an educated mother and one -who is uneducated. Education, which is understandably, the high intellectual state and tangible resourcefulness of a person -long after he or she has left school, could help scale down incidences of child abuse and neglect.</p>
<p>Upon this background, prospective parents must go or return to school not just to attend classes, but to learn. Having done so, the future could have environmentally caring and patriotic generation.</p>

<p>Newton watched an apple fall from the tree and discovered the law of gravity. Fitness, too, has its foundation rooted in such observations. Our rishis were not merely sadhus, lost to the world as they meditated on a higher plane. They were practical men who imbibed the laws of nature by noting the behaviour of animals and birds. Their evolved minds enabled them to use these practices in positive ways for humankind.</p>
<p><span id="more-1976"></span></p>
<p>Those of us who have been fortunate enough to watch the splendorous fanning out of the vividly-coloured feathers of the peacock in its rain-dance may have viewed it purely as an aesthetic exercise. But our rishis noted the anterior stretching, the compression of the abdominal muscles of the peacock and decided it would be beneficial for people. Then, they saw cats and dogs stretching, elephants washing their stomachs, tortoises controlling their breath, frogs hibernating (read: relaxing), snakes twining their way to suppleness. In all these postures, they envisioned the growth of a better, fitter human race. They gave us yoga, where equal importance is given to both exercise and relaxation. The word &#8216;yoga&#8217; is derived from &#8216;yuja&#8217; meaning &#8216;to join&#8217;. For, that is what our rishis did &#8211; they joined or combined physical, mental and spiritual elements to make us fitter and healthier.</p>
<p>While we are not really into yoga, we&#8217;ve picked on certain important points that illustrate what we&#8217;ve discovered for ourselves. We feel exercising is a vital peg, a starting point from which you can begin your journey to a more positive lifestyle. Initially, you may see a workout as merely a passport to losing weight. But if you continue, you will realise it&#8217;s much more than shedding a few kilos of fat. It is also your visa to an inward land which makes you more open, more forthcoming to the world without. You are laying a fertile soil in which seeds of a positive attitude can sprout. That sapling of thinking, however, needs to be further nourished.</p>
<p>Just as you exercise your body, so you need to give your mind a good workout. We&#8217;ve often found that phrases such as &#8216;I can&#8217;t&#8217; convince you of your imagined inabilities and suppress the potential within you. Such phrases create mental obstacles and it&#8217;s only by removing them from your vocabulary can you get started on a more comfortable lifestyle. We know some people who complain constantly &#8220;I can&#8217;t sleep. I suffer from insomnia.&#8221; And sure enough, they are wide awake when the rest of the world is fast asleep. What they don&#8217;t realise is that they are setting themselves on a negative obstacle course and going against the natural laws. Auto-suggestions are strong practices that can rejuvenate or destroy you depending on how you use them. So, why not use them to benefit you? <p>The &#8216;I can&#8217; axiom will have far-reaching, positive consequences for you too. Tell yourself, &#8220;I can exercise.&#8221; Just as you put aside time for eating or doing your puja, initially set aside 20 minutes every day for exercising. As we said earlier in, this chapter, there is a god within you. And for that god, workout is worship. On your knees is the start of both prayer and sprint. Sets you thinking, doesn&#8217;t it?</p>
<p>And like prayer, fitness is a constant process. As you put it into practice, you will find yourself becoming stronger, healthier and happier. Positive things will happen to you because positive forces will have worked within you. And don&#8217;t ever stop. It may take days, weeks, months. But life will be increasingly beautiful, brighter and more fulfilling. It is nature&#8217;s way.</p>

<p>I can attest to the fact that personal trainers have a sense of humor. Oh, really? you might say. Well, we are and just look at the book we wrote. Talk about sarcasm. So I had a workout buddy that trained with me every day of the week for at least 8 months before he left for the state of Califohhhhnia to pursue his dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder. Venice Beach, California, the Mecca of <a href="http://www.health-fitness-lifestyle.com/FitnessProfits" style="color:#000000;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;color:#000000;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;color:#000000;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;color:#000000;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:underline;font-style:italic;" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" onmouseover="self.status='bodybuilding';return true;" onmouseout="self.status=''">bodybuilding</a>. Of course, let&#8217;s not forget about the south of the East coast, where nip/tuck is increasingly popular. Anyway, one day, after ferociously pumping the quadriceps, reaching almost half a ton on the leg press, I hear him yell out &#8220;Quadratic Quads.&#8221; The humor of this rather interesting comment immediately came to my attention. As we know, the quadratic equation in math can represent great dimensions with the right x, y and z&#8217;s or a, b and c&#8217;s, and therefore using this phrase for the quads was quite ingenious. I looked at him and told him that it didn&#8217;t need to stop there: we could go further. What I meant is that the human body has other major muscle groups that we can alliterate using the first letter corresponding to muscle group. We came up with &#8220;Bulging Biceps&#8221; &#8220;Ludicrous Lats,&#8221; &#8220;Gigantic Glutes,&#8221; &#8220;Chiseled Chest/Calves,&#8221; &#8220;Titanic Triceps/Traps,: &#8220;Ferocious Forearms,&#8221; &#8220;Death Defying Delts,&#8221; &#8220;Spectacular Shoulders,&#8221; &#8220;Astonishing Abs,&#8221; &#8220;Heavenly Hamstrings.&#8221; Talk about lame. However, this is what kept us going and pumping even harder.</p>

<p>Most personal trainers I know have some kind of relationship with their clients that I would consider somewhat strange; however, we all share the same desire to make a difference in people&#8217;s lives. Just take the movie &#8220;Pumping Iron,&#8221; where the members of a gym become a family, and after working out they all go and have lunch. This, I would point out, actually corresponds to their fourth meal of the day, and they still have four more to go. Since working out actually makes you hungry, you need to consume lots of calories to compensate for the lost ones. So you eat more and more without the fear of gaining any weight other than muscle weight.</p>
<p>Personal trainers can be quite competitive as well since they all do their best to garner as many clients as possible to stay as busy as possible. It&#8217;s healthy competition, though, since a good personal trainer who follows the correct code of conduct will not trespass on someone else&#8217;s territory unless he is sure that the client is looking for a new trainer. As I mentioned previously, when looking for a personal trainer there is the chance that this particular trainer will not &#8220;feel&#8221; good to you. Personal trainers understand that and for that reason we always offer a complimentary introductory work out to get the feeling if the personal trainer is right for you. We do not feel offended if you do decide to go for the competitor: it&#8217;s just a question of the feeling between the client and the trainer. Many times I&#8217;ve had personal trainers come to me wanting to get rid of a customer by having me take them off their hands since they knew I was very patient. Sometimes clients can be quite a challenge, and some trainers are not in the mood to deal with it. It is also possible that both personalities are not in sync with one another. Whatever the reasons, swapping clients happens often between trainers. Many trainers, for money reasons, decide to tough it out. They are in dire need of money so they accept the abuse, because it can be abuse that they get sometimes from a client. This is a rare scenario but I&#8217;ve experienced it.</p>
<p>As personal trainers, we can use our communication skills to share our knowledge with anyone who wants to listen. I had one client, around 22 years of age, who had problems getting to third base, or fourth base-I don&#8217;t know what they call it these days-but in any case, I am not talking about playing baseball here. As a first-rate, understanding personal trainer, I soon found myself teaching him the skills of working his charm. Let&#8217;s face it: approaching a woman while having a good-looking body increases your odds of attracting her attention and desire. So my mission, as I wished and obligated myself to accept it, was to be more of a &#8220;life coach&#8221; to my client rather than just a personal trainer. And that was perfectly fine, because as a personal trainer, you need to wear different hats during your training sessions. You need to diversify by offering your services as a psychologist, psychiatrist, marriage counselor, life coach, fitness coach, charm coach, etc&#8230;. In the case of this particular client, I chose to teach him how to make women say &#8220;yes&#8221; all the time. First, I told him you need to understand women, at which point he looked at me fearfully, like I was from another planet. I know, it&#8217;s quite hard to pass into that stage of understanding women and what they want, but being a good listener can always put you on their good side. Some women like the guy to be aggressive-not too aggressive-but just enough to show that he is taking the initiative for courtship. Women can say one thing and mean something else. When women advise you not too jump too fast from stage 1: kissing, stage 2: hands on boobs, and stage 3: well, hands down there, I guess she means it and wants you to take your time between these stages. Women are not so interested in jumping in the sack wham-bam-thank-you-ma&#8217;am. Women enjoy being teased a little, or a lot, actually. Once you&#8217;ve passed into that comfort level and all, then you can concentrate on the quickies, which are appreciated by women as well.</p>
<p>Lack of one important thing in a sex life is probably the reason for an increase in straying between couples (and it not always the man who strays!): you need to add some spice to your sex life. I told him to change position, if needed, or if healthy enough, because some positions require you to be Gumby or a circus freak. You always need to communicate with the woman during these sessions to actually understand what she wants and needs. She won&#8217;t always tell you, but you can try to break the ice before she breaks your head with complaints. Believe me, you don&#8217;t want that.</p>
<p>A woman always likes to hear that you find her beautiful. Always make comments on her looks and body. If she loses weight, make sure to notice it. Basically, giving compliments is always appreciated. Women can be as vain as guys, and women always enjoy hearing how great they look. It is a two way street as well. If women make the effort to look nice and fit, then men need to do the same, and this is why personal trainers exist. Another thing common to all relationships is when couples get way too comfortable with one another. This is where sometimes all hell breaks loose, as well as love handles and huge fat butts. It is easy to let yourself go and forget that your body is your temple. No one should tell you when and where to stop. It&#8217;s all about making a continual effort to make yourself look good for the woman, especially if she makes the effort to look good.</p>
<p>As I mentioned previously, when a women gets comfortable, she takes the position of the aggressor, and she might be one who wants it &#8220;tout de suite&#8221; (that is French for &#8220;Now, Goddammit!&#8221;). When you see a woman grab you by your jewels, I guess you are smart enough to understand what she is looking for, and if you are oblivious to what she wants, well, either go hide in a hole until an asteroid hits the Earth or just ask her!!!!! Since we&#8217;ve covered the ones that are aggressive, you have to consider the others who do not know how to ask for it or just plain to shy. Understanding a woman will make you more attuned to her needs. Just by looking at her, or better yet, hearing her moans, you can allow her to guide you into what she wants you to do. If she&#8217;s looking for the man to perform oral, well, the best for you to do is just making the &#8220;Survivor&#8221; journey down there. By kissing her from neck to breast, to stomach and ribs, the more she moans, the better it is for you to continue. If she is not interested in having you go lower than the waist, she&#8217;ll simply pull you back up with her hands. Given that no words are exchanged, there&#8217;s no chance for humiliation for either party.</p>
<p>Lighting is important as well. Women are more liberated in darkness versus sunlight. I&#8217;m wondering who the vampire is in this scenario. Most women use darkness to hide some of their, well&#8230;defects. Lack of light is always a preferred environment for women, and it should be respected. Believe me, it is to your advantage. Let her do whatever she wants, even if it&#8217;s to blindfold you. Actually, you should encourage that as it can bring some spice to your sex life. v</p>
