<p>Prostate cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer in men, is not widely talked about in male circles. Yet, statistics have shown that one in six men should expect this diagnosis. This slow growing disease and today’s treatments ensure that only a few may die from it. Of course, the more you know about the disease the better the chance of being one of the few to prevention and fighting it if necessary. High risk category patients will be those who have a family history or are currently experiencing symptoms, but regular examination can spot the cancer early by testing the amount of prostate-specific antigens in the blood. Using the most effective means of testing is the digital rectal exam where the doctor inserts a finger into the rectum and manually checks for abnormalities on the prostate. As uncomfortable as this may seem, priority will encourage you to seek regular testing the catch the cancer early to increase the chances of experiencing the effects of prostate cancer, which are much more uncomfortable than the examination.</p>

The reason for this is still unknown but at any rate, family history plays a big factor and can double your risks of actually contracting prostate cancer. Many cases of prostate cancer are symptom free with minor notification like difficulty in urination, hip and /or back pain, burning during urination, or just a weak stream of urine, or pain during ejaculation. The encouragement to see a doctor if you experience these symptoms won’t be necessary as most men will immediately seek medical attention if these symptoms occur. Detection of the cancer is priority one, and if detected the doctor will then grade the cancer stage from 1 to 5 depending on the amount and presence of the number of cancerous cells as compared to the amount of abnormal cells. A determination of the aggressiveness of the cancer is then evaluated to produce what is called a Gleason score. The higher the score the more aggressive the cancer.</p>
<p>There is high hope of cure if detected and treated early. Treatments include the watch and wait approach which, as the name implies, monitors the progression for slow growing cancerous cells. Radiation treatments that can be linked to impotence, Radical prostatectomy where the prostate gland is removed, Chemotherapy drugs used for advanced stages, or hormone therapy which can slow the progression and manage the disease. The main point is to seek immediate care if you think that you may be experiencing problems and not to let the examination scare you out of your chances for survival. Take care of your body, particularly as you enter the older stages of your life. Being cautious leads to longevity and happiness, and prostate cancer is certainly something that you need to be cautious about. It all comes down to the fact that you have to make a decision that you are going to change the way you eat and it doesn&#8217;t&#8217; have to be an abrupt change you just need to understand more about what you are eating and what the energy value is and the nutrient value is of the foods you are consuming.</p>
<p>I know the nutritional value of the foods I am eating. I keep a running tabulation in my mind of the foods I have eaten and what I am going to eat today and how I am going to balance it out.</p>
<p>I know that if I have been naughty in eating too many chocolate chip cookies then the next day I am going to watch what I eat.</p>
<p>You know we talked about people and their eating habits and they are so ingrained, how can we change our eating habits. One of the things that I have noticed is that if you are doing something healthy for yourself, if you will just go out and walk 15 minutes a day the easier it will be to put aside the unhealthy ones.</p>
<p>When you do something like walk 15 minutes and then you are standing in front of the chocolate chip cookies you are more likely to start thinking should I eat those cookies or shouldn&#8217;t I, well I think it becomes a little more easier to make healthy choices. The more healthy choices you make the easier it is to incorporate more.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s almost like the unhealthy choices don&#8217;t fit anymore. They are incompatible with the healthy choices. You know, I have quoted that adage that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Well it&#8217;s almost the same applied to health and nutrition.</p>
<p>As I kick around health and nutrition with people that are into it like I am, I find that if you do exercise and have more muscle mass you burn more calories when you are at rest. Lean muscle mass has a higher metabolic requirement. When you are just sitting around doing nothing and your body has more lean muscle mass you are going to burn more calories than if your body contains fatty tissue.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s kind of a cruel injustice but the fitter you get even at rest you are burning more calories. The basil metabolic requirement on a daily basis may be a very small percent of your total energy needs as compared to other ways you burn energy. The basil metabolic requirement is just how much energy you need to sustain your basic metabolic processes, like breathing, heartbeat and digestion and those things.</p>

<p>Training can only take 15 minutes per day, more or less according to the breed&#8217;s temperament towards the training. It is a time commitment, but definitely worth the effort. The trick is choosing the right breed of dog that will fit in with your lifestyle. With correct training and socialization, your new dog will learn his place in the family &#8220;pack&#8221; and you will enjoy him so much more as a polite and long lasting companion!</p>
<p>You can train the new puppy you just brought home, or an older dog that you adopted. Even your canine pal that you&#8217;ve had for years can be trained to be a more obedient and polite friend!</p>
<p>Different breeds of dogs have different temperaments, and training needs to be approached accordingly. Some dogs need a firm heavier hand, while others need only a soft &#8220;no&#8221;. And then there are the ones in the middle who respond best to both approaches. But all need plenty of reassurance that you love them and are their fair and consistent pack leader.</p>

On the other hand, if your dog&#8217;s breed is aggressive and maybe a little unruly, then you know you have to use a heavier and firmer hand and a definite voice of authority when training him. This type of dog needs to know that you are the boss, not him! Then you have all kinds of temperaments in between. The more you get to know your puppy or dog, combined with the knowledge of his breed&#8217;s temperament, the easier it will be for you to adjust your training techniques.</p>
<p>An excellent way to start understanding your dog or your would-be dog or puppy is to purchase a breed specific book at your local pet store or bookstore, or go online to amazon.com, or any of the other online bookstores and purchase one there. That way you&#8217;ll get a heads up on your dog, and will know what to expect when you get him home! If you acquire a mixed breed dog or puppy from the shelter, not to worry. Usually you can determine the dominant breed by looking at the pup or dog. You can also ask your veterinarian his opinion when taking the animal in for his shots. Read up on that breed, and you should be in pretty good shape.</p>
<p>Remember to pick a dog or puppy that will be compatible with your lifestyle. If you live in an apartment, don&#8217;t choose a Saint Bernard, but you could choose a small lapdog. If you want a family dog and have a yard, a Golden Retriever might be right for you. If you want an obedience competitive dog, a Border Collie or Australian Shepherd is a good choice. If you need a guard dog, a German Shepherd or Doberman Pinscher would fill your needs. Do your research to see what breed would be right for your lifestyle, how much time you can devote to your dog, and the kind of environment that you live in (farm, apartment, suburbs, etc.).
